Disaster Preparedness, Prevention & Recovery
During the Eastern Iowa flooding event of 2008; I was instrumental in flood mitigation efforts in Iowa City, Iowa, primarily at Parkview Evangelical Free Church, but then soon expanded to the surrounding neighborhoods and critical city infrastructure locations. My participation in this event included flood prevention, mitigation, reclamation, and rebuilding. I led several local volunteer teams, as well as national service teams through all phases of the flood event.
Throughout this flooding event, my associations with municipal, county, and national governmental agencies were initiated. Since that event, I have served as a primary contact and organizational liaison of Parkview Church for the City of Iowa City and Johnson County Emergency Management. These relationships were further utilized in less destructive flooding events of 2013 and 2014.
As a result from the 2008 flood event, I was named as an Iowa City Press-Citizen; 2008 Person of the Year Nominee.
Emergency Medical Services
During my time of residence in Winnebago Minnesota, I completed an EMT-Basic Training Program. Upon receiving my license I was hired by our volunteer municipal ambulance service to provide on-call emergency care and transport for the City of Winnebago. I served as a volunteer from 1995-1999.
